Tools Checklist

But before we get into it, here’s a list of all the essentials you’ll need:

-      Curtain Pole

-      Curtain Rings

-      Curtain Hooks

-      Step Ladder

-      Curtain Finials (if included in your curtain set)

-      New set of Curtains

-      Grub Screws

-      Central Bracket

-      Pencil

-      Tape Measure

-      Drill

-      Protective Gear (safety googles, spec mask)

Step by step guide

1)     Measure and mark the position of your curtain pole. Ideally, you’ll need to position the pole so that the curtain drops at a height that’s right for you, like just above the floor, or at the bottom of the window. Don’t forget to consider whether your curtains use eyelet rings or loops of fabric.

Tip: The end brackets should be at least 50 mm out from the edge of your windows, and at least 50 mm from the top of your window.

2)     Use a step ladder to help you position the central bracket. To do this, you should measure the entire length of the window first and simply half the overall length. Then mark that point with a pencil. Don’t forget to factor in the length of curtain drop too; you can use the tape measure as a guide.

3)     Once you’re happy you’ve found the centre of the wall, you can then drill a hole. Place the raw plug in the drilled hole and screw the central bracket in place. It’s also crucial that you protect yourself with safety googles and a dust mask at this stage.

Tip: Make sure there are no surface-level pipework or cables beforehand. If you’re unsure, contact a professional.

Installing Curtain Pole

4)     Now, you can fit the side brackets on the left- and right-hand side, using the same process. But, before that, measure the gather of the curtains, so you know how much room is needed to anchor the curtains in place.

Tip: You can do this by scrunching the curtains together, leaving one section free, and then measuring that small section.

5)     All that’s left for you to do now, is to feed the pole through your set of curtains and simply fit into position. Depending on the size of your curtain pole, you may need to repeat this process on the other side, which should slot into place.

It’s worth noting that this is a general guide to fitting your curtain pole, and steps may vary depending on the brand of your chosen curtain set. With that in mind, your curtains may have their own unique step-by-step guide that have not been covered in this set of instructions.
