We’ve consulted multiple sources to bring you the four easiest ways to reseal these cartridges to extend their lifespan.
This method is something we may often do frequently by accident, forgetting to clean up the nozzle of a tube, resulting in the product drying up, preventing any product from flowing freely.
While this can be an inconvenience when done unintentionally, it can be a simple way to expand the life of your caulk cartridges.
All you need to do is squeeze out an amount of caulk that is large enough to cover the opening of the nozzle, as well as being large enough to grip on to and remove when you want to use it again.
A popular solution amongst many in the trade, this method involves inserting a nail in to the hole of the nozzle, then securing it with a heavy duty tape, such as electrical tape. Ensure that the nail is only ever so slightly thicker than the nozzle, so that the seal is as airtight as possible.
This method could prove to be slightly less effective if the nozzle has been cut at an angle for accuracy when in use, but around this would be to cut the nozzle at a straight angle to seal it, then re cut at an angle when you need to use it again.
When you want to use the caulk again, just remove the tape and nail.
It is important to note that any nail that you use should be galvanised to ensure that rusting will not affect the colour or performance of the caulk when you go to use it again.
While DIY methods can prove very effective when it comes to resealing caulk cartridges, a specific product has been made to tackle this issue in the form of Nozzle Caps.
These caps come in many forms, are easy to use and are readily available in bulk for as little as 99p.
You can also mimic the effect of Nozzle Caps by repurposing an old latex or rubber glove. Simple cut one of the fingers off of the glove and place it over the nozzle. Similarly to the nail/screw method, wrap the nozzle in heavy duty tape so that no air can get through to the nozzle and dry out the caulk.
With these simple and cost effective methods, you can get the most out of your caulk to make sure that any project can be completed without excess waste and keeping costs low. If you’re looking for a selection of caulk perfectly suited for a variety of jobs, you can find everything you need and more in our range of Screws, Fixings and Adhesives.
