Remote Monitoring: The 24/7 security option for your home or business

For a long time, domestic and commercial security systems have often been split in to two categories – camera or alarm-based devices. However, since the introduction of more innovative security measures, some may see the classic forms of security as obsolete. But this is not the case…

The Problem with Traditional Alarms and CCTV

While these types of systems were the most effective on the market when they were first invented and for several decades after, but times have changed, with several factors resulting in these devices while still being effective, they are no longer the best option.

In terms of the burglar alarm that many of us have become accustomed too, the deterrent comes in the form of a loud noise intending the scare thieves in to retreating. But experts claim that both criminals and even the victims are becoming “immune” to the alerts given off by these alarms, with Farsight Security Services claiming that these types of devices have evolved in to a “boy cries wolf scenario”.¹

There is even evidence from former thieves themselves that a standard burglar alarm is not the deterrent it once was, with research from The Guardian interviewing the ex-burglars finding that: “burglar alarms were only No 13 on their list of deterrents.”²

On the other hand, CCTV is still seen as an effective deterrent, with this method of security topping the list of deterrents according to The Guardian’s research. But, standard CCTV cameras come with their own issues, particular for the victims and their possessions.

CCTV

While the mere sight of CCTV can be enough to put most burglars off, there will be a brave few that will take the risk and get away with your valuables. Even though CCTV will provide video evidence of the crime taking place, it can only be used after the fact, and a lot of the time thieves will make a conscious effort to obscure any identifying factors when committing a burglary. This could mean you just end up with a video of the crime and the perpetrators and your valuables gone forever.

But by upgrading to an alarm or CCTV with remote monitoring capabilities, these risks could be significantly reduced.

What is Remote Monitoring?

Remote Monitoring is a system used in multiple industries and works by notifying providers when a sensor or monitoring device is triggered.

When your Remote Monitored CCTV or Burglar Alarm detects a disturbance, the provider monitoring your property will either contact you or the appropriate emergency services, giving a better chance of catching criminals in the act with 24/7 surveillance being carried out by professionals to provide you with a quick response to any incident.

According to Farsight Security Services, this type of monitoring is particularly ideal for rural areas, with the company stating: “Rural sites are often isolated and with the likes of farmland meaning expensive machinery nearby, they become targets for criminals…Remotely monitored CCTV means incidents at rural sites can be picked up on, when otherwise they could have gone unnoticed.”¹

Remote Monitoring is a great way to give an extra boost to your alarms and CCTV and giving you extra comfort knowing that even if you can’t keep an eye on your property, someone always will be.  Whether you’re protecting a family home or rural farmhouse, you can make your alarms and CCTV systems the effective deterrent they once were.
