5 Point Locking Systems

5 Point Locking Systems Image

This multi point system has been developed with the timber market in mind. The bolt offers a modern method of securing the door and enables timber doors to be marketed with the same security features as most PVCu and Aluminium installations.

Operation couldn't be simpler. To lock the door, on leaving the premises, just lift the handle to throw the locking bolts and then lock the door with the key, just as you would a traditional 5-lever sash lock.

Rebated Doors. The question regularly arises as to the suitability for double doors. There are two ways to approach this situation. Firstly the most common method is to manufacture the doors with plain meeting styles and add a plant on stop/ rebate to the outside face. Secondly you can achieve fitting onto a rebated door by making the door with offset rebates, on a 44mm door, for instance, you would machine the door with 10mm + 34mm rebates therefore allowing room for the bolt to sit on one side comfortably. However is you are using offset rebates you will need to order an offset cylinder (typically a 35+45 cylinder would be used).

This multi-point lock is widely used on housing projects for front and back doors, conservatories, and for industrial premises where multi-point locking is vital. When they are fitted to a front door you must remember that they operate differently from a Yale lock in that you physically have to lock them on exit, although in some regions of the UK this is typical and preferred method of securing a front door.

Insurance Requirements & BS3621. Home owners are increasingly being asked by insurance companies prior to renewal for confirmation that glazed openings, particularly doors, are secured. In the case of doors they will regularly ask if the locks meet the requirements of BS3621.

5 pin refers to the number of locking pins within the cylinder that combine, when used in numerous variations, to provide the different key options.
