Sprung Hinges

Sprung hinges close a door in a similar fashion to a chain closer; sprung closing action without checking action. If a controlled closing action is required then you should fit standard hinges and an overhead closer as featured elsewhere on the website.

Adjustable Sprung Hinges Image

It's now possible to achieve a considerable fitting time saving when fitting self closing doors where you would traditionally fit hinges and a chain closer. The adjustable spring hinges featured here will close a door in a similar fashion to a chain type closer; sprung closing action without checking action. If a controlled closing action is required then you should fit standard hinges and an overhead closer as featured elsewhere on the website or in our catalogue.

The self closing spring tension can be disengaged by the removal of a small grub screw, allowing the door to swing freely, if it is no longer required to be a fire resisting door.

•Suit 30 minute fire door
•Doorset tested EN1634
•Solid steel with plated finishes
•Sold as 3 hinge sets - 1 set per box
•We recommend fitting with intumescent hinge pads (Product 166.020)

Double Action Spring Hinges Image

Commonly used to achieve a double swing action to kitchen or wash-up area doors in restaurants and public houses where the swift easy action is faster than can generally be achieved with a floor spring or transom type closer.
Careful consideration should be given TO THE HEALTH AND SAFETY IMPLICATIONS WHEN SPECIFYING OR FITTINGS THESE HINGES. THEY WILL SPRING THE DOOR SHUT INTO ITS CENTRE POSITION, AS AN UNCONTROLLED DOOR CLOSING DEVICE without any checking or damping. Stainless steel options are manufactured from SUS416 marine application stainless and are consequently popular for exterior doors and cold room stores. Ball bearing options not only provide quieter operation making them suitable for quality restaurants but also provide heavier loading that's ideal for glazed or metal clad doors.
It is critical that the door weight and size are considered when selecting your hinge. Before fitting to fire resisting doors, check with the fire or building control officer for acceptance. If acceptable take care to select the correct size and follow the installation instructions. GENERALLY TWO HINGES SHOULD BE FITTED UNLESS THE DOORS ARE RATED AS FIRE RESISTING DOORS (see note above). To install spring hinges correctly it's necessary to have or fix a 'plant' down the hanging edge of the frame, ideally the same thickness as the door, to allow free movement of the cylinders. Normal operation of the hinge is achieved by tightening both capstans on each hinge and inserting the pins provided. Under usual circumstances you would load the top hinge(s) with no more than three holes and the bottom hinge no more than two holes.
Maintenance: spring hinges are lightly lubricated before leaving the factory. The manufacturers recommend periodical lubrication to maintain trouble free operation.
