Escutcheons are the plates that fit around the keyhole on the door.
There are two main types, covered and open. Covered options should be fitted to exterior doors to help keep the weather out of the locking mechanism and to stop draughts. Additionally covered options help disguise the keyhole on interior doors, and can provide a neat design feature.
