Police in Chippenham have advised homeowners to ensure door and window locks are used effectively after a spate of recent break-ins, it has been revealed.
One householder in Cepen Park saw a thief running from his property in the middle of the night with the keys to his car after he was woken by the sound of the burglars breaking in, the Gazette and Herald reports.
PC Nigel Smith, of the Chippenham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Don't just lock doors and windows, but hide valuable items and make sure car keys are not in full view of the door."
The news provider added that the police are looking for information from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious taking place in the area in recent weeks.
Earlier this week, the Bucks Herald reported residents in Buckinghamshire have been urged by crime reduction advisers to ensure external windows and locks are secure and fit additional locks where necessary to help keep would-be criminals at bay as the autumn nights draw in.
