Merseyside residents 'advised to lock up'

Posted on 16 October 2008

Merseyside residents As the evenings begin to draw in, police in Liverpool are urging homeowners to make use of deadlocks, window locks and internal lights on timers in order to keep their premises secure, it has been revealed.

Knowsley Online reports a collaboration between Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council is also advising locking doors when going out and setting burglar alarms.

Councillor Jackie Harris, cabinet member for community safety and social inclusion, told the news provider: "At this time of year, there is traditionally an increase in the number of burglaries with the clocks going back.

"Taking a few simple precautions can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime."

Detective chief inspector Chris Green added that householders should also keep watch for anything suspicious happening on their street.

Earlier this week, West Yorkshire Police recommended that local residents replace old UPVC door locks with new security measures after a spate of burglaries.
