Deadlocks recommended for Sunderland homeowners
Posted on 07 October 2008
Residents in the north-east of England have been advised to make use of door and window locks and deadlocks after stolen goods were seized in Sunderland.
A dawn raid uncovered thousands of pounds after targeting thieves suspected of burgling 21 houses in the city, the Sunderland Echo reports.
The newspaper went on to say homeowners should use deadlocks if they have them and that landlords have a responsibility towards the security of rented property.
Superintendent Dave Pryer, of Sunderland area command, told the news provider: "Stealing, theft and related offences are both costly and an inconvenience for people, both in replacing them and general distress caused."
Detective chief inspector Tim Walker, of crime operations, added: "Residents can rest assured that our neighbourhood policing teams can continue to draw on the skills of specialist departments."
He went on to say 19 people had been arrested in the raid.
Last week, West Yorkshire Police advised elderly residents to lock people out of their homes if they suspect a distraction burglary may be about to take place.
