Pre-fabricated doorsets 'can save money'

Using fully-finished doorsets instead of traditional assembly can save up to 50 per cent of initial building costs, it has been claimed.

According to joinery firm McTavish Ramsay, the efficiencies and savings created by pre-fabrication and the easing of time constraints on design professionals is too significant to be overlooked, despite recent controversy among architects, quantity surveyors and main contractors.

Group managing director at the firm Ken Shepherd said: "Doorsets make so much sense for architects, specifiers and estimators.

"The precision of factory finishing - especially now that we have installed state-of-the-art machinery - means that parts not only fit and match exactly but also ensure regulatory compliance."

He added that the time that can be saved by pre-fabricated door-sets in the design process and in onsite fitting is a significant factor right across the construction sector.

Last week, the Sunderland Echo reported that residents in the city have been advised to make use of door and window locks and deadlocks after the police seizure of thousands of pounds of stolen goods.
